Starting Solids

Kian is now five months old and we are getting ready to start solid foods!

It's a little bit overwhelming.

The breastmilk diet has been incredibly easy.  Easy to transport, readily available, and no prep required.  Now that we're starting solids it seems like there are infinite options for what to eat and how to eat it.

My internal dialogue has been a little something like this for the past month: "Should we buy the little baby food jars at the grocery store? organic? why is everything a blend? Maybe we should make our own baby food, but do we need a special machine? How long will it take? He has to eat the same thing for three days?! omg what if he's allergic? There is no way he can be allergic to vegetables. Maybe we should do babyled weaning and skip purees all together!"

Whew! After all these thoughts were spinning around in my head I came to the conclusion that I want Kian to be an adventurous eater and I want him to eat what we eat. I have no desire to come home and make two dinners. For now, we are going to start on homemade purees (using a standard blender) and I will likely be using this blog for inspiration, in addition to this book.  Wish us luck!
