Kaena Point

look at those tan legs!!

Back in November while Jason Derck was visiting, we decided to do a sunset hike out on the west side. I have to say when we started planning this hike we were misinformed. First of all Oahu revealed said if you come from the North side and there hasn't been rain, the road is two wheel drive and you can drive all the way to within 1/2 a mile of Kaena Point.  Lies, nothing but lies! This road is 4 wheel drive all the time.  And if you really think you can do it in two wheel drive I hope your car is lifted like two feet.
Anyways once we got there we realized we couldn't drive so we walked.  The walk isn't that terrible but I would recommend wearing shoes.  It took us around an hour to get to the point and then we waited 45 minutes for sunset.  The sunset was beautiful, of course. As soon as the sun dipped below the horizon we started back trying to make it as far as possible before it was dark.  We didn't make it very far.  I think we walked 45 minutes in the dark back to our car, and had someone not been pulling out at the moment we made it to the parking lot, we would of walked past it.

Happy Halloween!!!!

Blending in.
"take a picture of this cool car"-Brenden

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! I love dressing up, seeing all the costumes, carving pumpkins, being scared, decorating, candy, everything! I love it all! Unfortunately, we didn't get to celebrate Halloween as much as I would have liked this year.  We didn't visit any haunted houses, our pumpkins went bad after three days, and we didn't plan out costumes until the day before the big Hallowballoo Festival.

I'm not totally sure why we didn't visit any haunted houses this year.  I think the main reason was there was none in downtown/Waikiki (that we heard of). Now that I drive to the other side of the island every weekday I'm not too keen on doing it during the weekends too.

The only thing we got to this year was Hallowballoo and we almost didn't even do that. We were so disappointed that we'd never be able to top our costumes from last year that we pretty much gave up.  At the very last minute I decided we should just dress as generic characters and at least go and see the other costumes.  So as you may or may not be able to tell from the pictures above, I am a witch and Brenden is brother nature.

Some of our favorite costumes from Hallowballo were, Taco (the league), a cheese grater, double dare team, and Scooby Doo(which was just a dog).

*We did not bring a real camera, so please enjoy these low quality pictures from my phone! (it's mostly of us, sorry)

Eat The Streets

Eat The Streets! We went to Eat the Streets last week.  It's basically a food truck festival that is held in a giant parking lot downtown. The theme was "Dia de los Muertos" and the advertising said there would be tacos and Mexican food, lots of it.  Advertisers lie.  Fact.

In the little circle of food trucks there was only one Mexican food truck and only one other truck serving tacos.  And, the tacos were expensive.  There was no buck tacos so you couldn't even try the different tacos without spending twenty dollars.  We ended up going to the Mexican food truck, Brenden got veggie tacos and I got chicken.  Brenden loved his, but it was also the first thing he had eaten all day so his opinion may not be valid.  I did not like mine at all. Even when smothered in salsa they were devoid of flavor.  It was so disappointing!  I guess thats just what happens when you grow up in Southern California with constant easy access to delicious tacos.

Not everything was negative though.  I had a wonderful cookie ice cream sandwich, and Brenden had a lilikoi lemonade that he said was delicious.  We both want to go back next time.  I really want to try the waffle dog.

Sandy Beach

We went to Sandy beach this past weekend! Like I've said before I don't enjoy swimming here because the waves break so close to the shoreline that I just feel like I'm going to injure myself.  But, I wanted to go anyways because I didn't want to be in Waikiki.  Sometimes you just gotta get away. Here are some pictures and a video from our day! We don't normally do videos, but, we're trying something new. Enjoy!
