Beach Day!

We went to the beach over the weekend and it was hot!! There was hardly any wind, and the sun was so strong!! We both got a little tan this weekend.  This was the first time we had been to the beach since we got back from the mainland.  It was okay. Maybe at some point we'll invest in an umbrella or shade tent and then the sun won't be so terribly harsh.

beach lifestyle

Everyone thinks when you live in Hawaii you go to the beach all day, every day.  Some people probably do, but for Brenden and me, thats just not the case. We go through phases where we either go to  the beach every chance we get or don't go at all. There have been many months where I have not gone to the beach and Brenden knows people who haven't been in years. It really just depends.

Right now I don't know what phase I'm in. I went twice in one week but before that I hadn't gone in a month. At least I'm getting a little tan.

the deep blue sea

We went on a catamaran sail!

It was not the greatest experience.  It seems like every couple months living social has a catamaran deal in Waikiki so one day, I bought one.  The catamaran itself was great! In fact, we ended up being with a group of only 7 people, so it was really nice.  The problem came from the fact that I get sea sick (even on medication) and Brenden had had a fun night. Our 90 minute sail felt like 5 hours.  I did not move the entire sail and spent my time staring at land marks.  Brenden didn't fare quite as well and he moved around a bit...We were so happy when the sail ended.

I wish one of us had been able to actually enjoy it, oh well, maybe next time.

star & stripes forever

^ started the day with red, white, and blue pancakes^

^ our most patriotic gear ^

^ it was insanely crowded ^

^ hunk ^

Our Fourth of July was wonderful! Brenden didn't have to work (yay!) so we both slept in.  After I woke up I decided it was time for red, white, and blue pancakes and instead of the regular recipe on the bisquik box, I used the melt in your mouth recipe on the bisquik box.  I think I tasted a difference, but Brenden did not. After breakfast we watched North America on the discovery channel and then put on our most patriotic gear which was also our only red, white, and blue, clothing.  Then headed to the beach. It was crazy crowded! We had never seen it so crowded before.  We felt like we were at the Jersey shore especially when the people a foot away ended up being from Jersey.

After the beach, we went running together, did our crunches and push-ups together and then ate burgers and finished watching North America.  We did not watch the fireworks...and we didn't miss them either.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

Friday at the Hilton

On Friday Brenden and I went to the Hilton for a hotel party with some of his friends. The hotel room was amazing and had a fantastic view. Its crazy because we only live a block away from the Hilton but facing the ocean is like being on a different island. So peaceful, relaxing, and amazing.

We had drinks and snacks while we waited for everyone to arrive, and the fireworks show to begin. The fireworks go off every Friday at 7:45,  we always hear them and never watch them. It was nice to see and hear the show this past weekend, like a sneak preview for tomorrow.

After the fireworks, I got really sick. I have no idea what made me sick, but I was absolutely miserable. We went home early and spent the rest of the weekend in while I recovered.

50mm

^the water was coming up so high!!^

We got a new lens the other day and I am still getting the hang of it. I decided to get some practice by walking around the beach but it was not the best day to be out with our fancy camera. The water just kept coming up higher and higher! Towels were soaked; beach mats were floating away; people were getting knocked down; and to top of it all off the jelly fish were out.  I didn't spend too much time there.

I like this lens but I really need to practice with it.  I'm going to have to get my model (Brenden) to come out with me ;)

beach days

I finished school about a month ago (!) and in that time I haven't done anything productive at all really.  I mean the first two weeks I was busy with family, graduation, and traveling, so I feel like thats not really my fault.  But these last few weeks, welllll thats all me.

I just don't know what to do with myself.  For now I will be relaxing, reading and trying to convince myself to go to the gym.

on the roof

I went up on the roof the other day and played around with some settings on the camera. I wanted pictures of the sunset, but all those buildings really got in the way. One of these days we will make it out to the west side for sunset pictures and maybe even the east side for sunrise.  We're getting wild over here!

Mothers Day

Because of the graduation, our moms were in town! It was so great to be able to celebrate mothers day with our moms. We both have not been able to celebrate with them for a few years, and we hardly ever see them! It was just nice to be able to spend some time together. We all had brunch at Ocean House , a quaint little place right on the beach with delicious food. Afterwards, us kids headed to the beach, my mom got ready for her trip to Maui, and Brenden's moms went out for some pool time.  A lovely time was had by all.

Kahanamoku Beach

We went to the beach on Saturday! It rained most of the afternoon so it was not the most beautiful day out, but we needed to break out of our routine of doing nothing. We made three tries to go to the beach.  At the first beach the storm clouds moved in fast.  Then they happened to be at the second beach as well. A few hours later the sun finally came out and we walked down to the Hilton.

Then, I ran down the beach, really fast! You can tell because of the way my hair is moving.
